UNFOLLOWED GUIDES

What access does Unfollowed need to your X account?

Updated October 4, 2026 · By the Unfollowed team

Review Unfollowed’s X permissions, stored data, Telegram connection, and options for stopping tracking or revoking access.

Review access before connecting

Sign-in takes place through X’s authorization flow. Unfollowed does not ask you to type your X password into its own page. Review the permissions shown by X before approving access, and only connect an account you own or are authorized to manage.

Why these permissions are requested

  • Read profile information: identifies your X account and retrieves its profile details (users.read).
  • Read posts: the activity subscription used by Unfollowed requires tweet.read. The product uses the subscription to receive unfollow events.
  • Maintain access: offline.access allows token refresh so monitoring can continue after your sign-in session.

The app does not request write, direct-message, email, or follower-list access. It does not post, send X direct messages, or follow and unfollow accounts on your behalf. Read permissions still grant access: review the authorization screen rather than treating any connected app as risk-free.

What is stored?

Unfollowed stores account and profile details, sign-in tokens, basic session information, and received unfollow event details. Linking Telegram adds a chat ID for delivery. Cloudflare hosts the application and its data, and Telegram delivers messages.

PostHog receives page visits and selected product actions linked to an internal account ID when signed in. Unfollowed does not send it your X profile details, unfollow events, or Telegram chat ID. Session recording is disabled. The privacy policy explains these practices in more detail.

Disconnecting and revoking access

  1. In Unfollowed’s Connections screen, disconnect X to stop monitoring and remove saved monitoring history.
  2. Disconnect Telegram to remove its stored chat link. Messages already delivered remain in Telegram.
  3. Remove Unfollowed from your connected apps in X settings to revoke X authorization itself.

Disconnecting is not full account deletion. There is currently no in-app account deletion option, and the Unfollowed sign-in record remains. Disconnecting also does not reset the five-event lifetime allowance.

What “private alerts” means

Unfollowed shows activity in your signed-in dashboard and sends messages to the Telegram chat you link. It does not publish an unfollower list on a public page. X, Telegram, and the hosting and analytics services still process the information needed to provide their services.
